Shot in film-noir style, the series focused on the exploits of Steve Wilson and the staff of 'The Illustrated Press' newspaper as they reported on the important social issues of the day. "Big Town" was a long-running, highly-successful network radio series (1937- 1952) and film series ("I Cover the Underworld," "Underworld After Dark," and "Underworld Scandal") before becoming a hit television series.
The Pay-Off
Steve Wilson, editor of the Illustrated Press, is threatened with a lawsuit by a district boss for writing about political graft in the district where a policeman was killed. Wilson uses the cop's widow to bring down the boss.

When a father (Hugh Beaumont), his wife (Marjorie Lord), and their son (Bobby Hyatt) are pulled over by the police, they discover that the car loaned to them by the father's brother (Alan Wells) was stolen.
